Tierra del Fuego II – Puerto Williams

I really liked the wild and rough landscape of Tierra del Fuego. So I decided to stay there a bit longer. And went to Puerto Williams. Which is a small town in Chile even more south than Ushuaia. And I was extremely lucky. Because a group from Portugal arranged a detour to the sea lions colony during the short boat trip to Puerto Williams, which the company normally does not do. Yeah! Thanks Pedro from a2z-adventures for “organizing” this great detour.

After the visit to the sea lions we went over the Beagle Channel and arrived at the Isla Navarino, where a short bus ride took us to Puerto Williams. Stayed at the Hostel Pusaki, where the wonderful Patty is pampering her guests. The first day I slept really long and enjoyed the sounds and the scent of fresh coffee from the kitchen while still staying in bed. Close to a perfect Sunday morning… so I did not mind that it was Wednesday ;-) Thanks Patty for your very warm hospitality! Thumbs up!

The next days I went with Juan (from Spain) on two great hikes. We did the last (Laguna Los Guanacos) and (almost) the first day (Laguna del Salto) of the Dientes de Navarino trek. Great hikes in a pristine mountain range.

Often, there was not even a clear path. Liked it a lot. And Juan was crazy enough to encourage me to go on both times. Most people would have surrendered. But not Juan. Wohoo! Juan, thanks for hiking with me these two great hikes; thanks for going on, even as there was no way; and thanks for all the fun. Awesome guy!

On the way to Laguna del Salto. Wow.

Coming back from the first hike, there was a surprise. The group of Australians, that I met on the Torres Circuit was there, too. What a great reunion! We had a great dinner (thanks Patty!) and a lot of fun! After a few splendid days it was already time to leave Puerto Williams and Isla Navarino to catch the ferry to Punta Arenas.

Dinner at Pattys! Mhmmmm.

Greats from a pristine spot on earth!
