Punta del Diablo & Cabo Polonio – Hidden treasures!

As I have told you in the last post, Giorgina, Martin & Lukas have been so nice that it was hard to leave. But luckily they also told me enough about the nice beaches of Uruguay. So I finally took a bus to Punta del Diablo. A little town at the sea, which is said to be crowded with young students in the main season, but was almost empty a this time of the year.

Spent a few very relaxed days there: Long walks on the beaches, a visit to the Parque Santa Teresa, sleeping in the hammock of the great “La Casa de las Boyas” with a cute little kitty on my lap, reading a romantic book at the beach, listening to the waves. As I started the trip in South America with a swim in the ocean I decided to end it with one as well. Even though it was much colder. Both in the water and outside.

The extremely hospitable owners of the Casa de las Boyas took us to a trip to the Laguna Negra, a lake with black water. And they invited us to a delicious asado (big barbeque) on the last evening. Thanks Mariela and Fabio for your great hospitality!

Together with Pauline and Laure, two girls from France, who I met at the hostel, I went to Cabo Polonio. An awesome hideaway from civilization. There is no road to the village and no electricity. But long, wide beaches, a beautiful lighthouse and a very relaxed vibe. We had a great walk at the beach and through the sand dunes, watched the sea lions, and had dinner with two locals. The sky at night was incredible. So many stars at the dark sky. Actually, one can see the whole Milky Way from there. Never seen that before. So beautiful!

Pauline & Laure: Thanks for your great company! It was a pleasure to meet you and a great time with you in Punta and Cabo. Merci beaucoup for your delicious cooking every evening. Very much appreciated :-) Enjoy BA!
