The second excursion Simone and I did from Chachapoyas was a hiking trip to the Gocta waterfall. A very high waterfall (number 16 according to the World Waterfall Database). As always I enjoyed the hike a lot. We went on a nice trek through beautiful cloud forest. I was lucky and got a glimpse of the Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru’s national bird.
After a short time of hiking one can already see the waterfall which drops in two cascades over 700 meters down. Quite impressive. At this time of the year one can get very close to the waterfall as it did not contain too much water. Looked just like some fog that came down the hill. However, once I got nearer and the wind direction changed I realized that it is not like fog, but more like some heavy heavy rain. Got totally wet ;-) Would like to see the fall in the winter time when it contains much more water.
On the way back our guide told us, that there is another trek, which leads to the second cascade. As it was already quite late and we wanted to catch the night bus to Trujillo we decided not to take the detour. Made it back to Chachapoyas in good time, had some nice dinner and took the bus south to Trujillo.
@TrendyÄndi: Would have loved to have you here as I am sure that we would have taken that little detour and still returned in time. So good memories about our trip in Sweden. YEAH!
Greetings from a lovely spot in the nature
