Next stop was the Lake Titicaca. We took a tourist bus for the way from Cusco to Puno that stopped at different sights along the way. Unfortunately we had to get up very early to get the bus, so we arrived quite tired in Puno, which resulted that we slept quite long the next day, as neither of us wanted to get up.<\/p>\n

When we finally arrived at the harbor relaxed but late, the normal tour boats already left, so we took a private boat shuttle to the Islas Flotantes. These are floating islands, made of reed that grows in the lake. As the reed rot from below, the residents have to put new reed on top of the islands from time to time. The floating islands were \u201cinvented\u201d when the indigenous people of the Lake Titicaca region had to flee the mainland due to the Inkas.<\/p>\n

We decided to stay one night on one of the islands, enjoyed the beautiful weather and did two boat journeys. One short one with a rowboat and a longer one with a motor powered one to explore the different islands. It is quite a big area that is covered by different islands. A whole city floating on the water.<\/p>\n

Next day we were picked up by another boat and went the Isla Tanquile. Nice trip over the lake at best sunshine weather (if angels travel ;-) There we were shown the traditions of the indigenous people, like man wearing bobble hats and different traditional dances. After a long trip back we arrived in Puno again and spent a wonderful night in the Hotel Conde de Lemos<\/a>.<\/p>\n
