I have to admit that I was not too impressed. Maybe I am just a philistine. A few minutes at the beach in Huanchaco have been included in the tour, too. However, I met Caroline and Gart, a really nice couple from the Netherlands (Netherlands again, seems to be only great people living there). And Sandy, a friendly Ecuadorian lady with her son from Lima.

A lot of symbols on the walls.

Second night bus in a row. Hm, not the most funny thing. So I arrived quite washed-out in Huaraz. There, the package with Ellis Christmas present was missing. Juhu. Had to wait three hours until the next bus arrived. After several inquiries it luckily showed up. Took a cab to the Way Inn Lodge after I found a driver who knew the place. It is a beautiful lodge located high above Huaraz in the Cordillera Blanca. Beautiful spot. Perfect for day hikes and some relaxing which I was planning to do. Shortly after I arrived on the lodge I was informed that there has been a big strike and some riots in Huaraz (see Lewis blog for more) and those could break up anytime again. A strike would have meant that all roads in and out of the town are blocked by locals who are protesting against a mining project. I did not want to risk of being not in Lima when Elli would arrive there so I decided to take the night bus to Lima on the same day. Sad that I did not have some time for hiking as the Cordillera Blanca seems to be a perfect spot for this.

View from the lodge in Huaraz.

Arriving in Lima after three nights in busses I needed some time to relax which I did in Sandy’s hostal, where I was greeted by Sandy and her lovely son with a very warm welcome.
