Arequipa – Romantic city

On the way back to Lima we had time for a night in Arequipa. After checkin in the beautiful Casa de Medgar we went out to explore the town. Luckily, it was Tuesday where the Monasterio de Santa Catalina is open in the evening hours. It is a really big old monastery, founded 1579 and basically a town in the town. After a very interesting guided tour we took some time for a walk in the monastery, that was lighted with candles, petroleum lights and wooden fires. Romantic atmosphere. After the monastery we strolled the beautiful streets and alleys of the city, and had a lovely dinner (and a some Pisco Sours ;-)

After a nice breakfast in the garden of the Casa de Medgar, we visited the convent La Recoleta, nowadays a museum with exhibitions ranging from religious art to animals from the Amazonas, and a library with very old books. Had a look at the museum Santurios Andinos, too, where they show you the history of the human sacrifices the Inkas did. Afterward we took a walk to the suburb Yanahuara. Walking hand in hand at sunshine is a really nice way to spend a day.
