Krabi – Thailand at it’s best!

Wow, what a great time I have had in Krabi Town. I have not seen too much of Thailand so far, nevertheless I think, that Krabi really is Thailand at it’s best! The city is still dominated by Thais, ’cause not to many tourists spend time in that charming town.

Luckily I decided to stay at the Good Dream Guesthouse. You might find a guesthouse with nicer rooms but there is no way that you’ll find one with staff better than the “Good Dream Girls”! They have just been awesome and are taking customer service to the next level! Aside from being extremely helpful with all questions about ongoing travels or tours, I was invited by Noi and Vivi to join them for a drink at a nearby bar already the second day. Great evening I! That was repeated several more times during my stay in Krabi. Great evening II – X :-)

Another evening I was invited to a Thai Barbeque at Noi’s and Ban’s home. Together with their Thai friends and some other travelers we shared typical and delicious Thai food. A Thai barbeque differs a bit from it’s European counterpart. The grill stands on the floor and everybody gathers around it. Sitting cross legged (I still don’t understand how the Thais find this position even remotely comfortable and are able to sit like this for hours). Then different kinds of meat are grilled in the middle of the coal fired grill whereas shrimps, vegetables, fish balls and noodles are cooked around (well, pics say more than thousand words, so have a look). Together with different sauces this results in a delicious banquet.

When not going for a drink with the “Good Dream Girls” and their friends, I enjoyed the different night markets in town. The first evenings their was a special “Big Buddha Festival” night market with a lot of entertainment, shops and different food stalls. Together with four guys from Hamburg I tried some insects to go. Thanks to Hamburg for the motivation!

Every Friday and Saturday there was another market called “Krabi Walking Street”. Clothes, handicrafts and a big variety of food and drinks. The latter ones could be enjoyed at tables in front of a big stage with live performance of dancing and singing. Met four guys from Malaysia one evening. Thanks to Chiachia, Shyn, Koh Chee and Han Tung for joining my table and the funny evening! The other days there was the normal night market to get some Thai food and Nutella pancakes. Or I just had some good food at the Good Dream Restaurant while watching a movie.

As Ban was leaving for Sweden their was a big farewell party at the Rooftop bar. And he invited me to join. Free food, a ladyboy, gays, girls, guys, great people. A lot of fun! Awesome! Thanks Ban for the invitation. Wish you a great time in Sweden! Ha det så bra!

During daytime, Krabi has a lot to offer, too.  Meanwhile most of the tourists spread out among the various beaches and islands around, life goes on in Krabi. Which has a lot of cozy cafes. Breakfast I normally enjoyed at May & Marks, where the lovely Kittiya and her husband serve delicious dark bread. Mhmmm.

Aside from the trips to then Andaman Sea, Ao Thalane, and the countryside I went to the famous Railay-/Tonsai-Beach. Relaxing three days. Slept a lot. Explored the different beaches by kayak for one day. Hiked to the viewpoint the next day. And went to the lagoon. The way there is more climbing than hiking, some 3-4 meters drop offs. Luckily, I came down without falling and made it back up, too. Nice workout and a lot of fun, especially because it was very muddy :-) Unfortunately, they only have cold showers at Tonsai beach, where I had a nice hut in the jungle. Brrr.

In Krabi I also went to my first massage in Thailand. Opted for a full body oil massage. And was quite surprised, that you actually have to undress completely and just cover up with a towel. Which the girl even pushes out of the way to the absolute maximum. Now I understand, why there are certain massage parlors where you can opt for a “happy ending”. Wouldn’t be a very long way to go ;-) BEGIN EDIT: Both massages I took were without :-( but still great. Both massages I took were of course without but great. END EDIT. Very relaxing to get your whole body massaged for an hour. Hach.

On my last day in Krabi, Ai convinced me to join her on a trip to Hong Island. This time we did not go by longtail boat (as on the Four-Islands-Tour) but instead by speed boat. Hell yeah, quite a difference. Much more fun to speed over the water. Wohoo. We stopped at beautiful beaches and went for great snorkeling (the best so far). Thanks(!) Ai for taking me on this trip, ’cause Hong Island and the islands around are definitely the most beautiful in the Krabi region. Karst rocks raising from the sea all over. Secluded beaches. A lot of colorful fishes. And a funny fast and bumpy ride back. Awesome!

Back in Krabi I found another cozy little cafe: Sweet & Coffee. Where I took one of the delicious’ ice green tea under an azure blue sky. These ice green teas are just delicious and now I also know why. Watched the waitress preparing it. And it is actually a matcha served with milk and ice. Delicious!

Special thanks to the “Good Dream Girls”, ’cause my time in Krabi would have been far less fun without you. Thank you Ai, Noi & Vivi (including Ban and the staff behind the scenes) for inviting me to so many bar nights, parties, trips and all your help! Awesome! Kop hun mahk krap!

  1. Ja, schnorcheln hat hier echt ‘was! Deswegen geht es auch nochmal auf die Perhentians…. Und ja, one of each. Ehrensache!

:-) Schön auf das Martinsviertel aufpassen, gell? Und die Partys dort nicht verpassen…
      Liebe Grüße zurück, Michael

I was not sad at all about not being offered the “happy ending”. So the text was kind of misleading. Edited. Thanks(!) for your remark.

    My suggestion:
“Both massages I took were OF COURSE without but great.”
